Tester guide · Tide It 7

Welcome to the Tide It 7 beta

You'll get a TestFlight invitation at your Apple Account email. Install the TestFlight app, open the invitation, tap “Accept” then “Install”: the app also lands on your Apple Watch. Your spots, favorites and settings are kept, and you can go back to the App Store version anytime.

Full Premium throughout the beta, nothing to buy. And 6 months of Premium free at launch if you send us at least one piece of feedback.

One tip: do your first session on land, a run or a brisk walk (the watch's “Run” sport, or “Start now” on iPhone). The day you hit the water, you already know where the buttons are.

What's new

Your first session on iPhone

  1. On Today, tap the Session button at the bottom right: the card flips to the wheel.
  2. Spin the wheel to your sport. The spot is found from your location.
  3. Tap Start: the “Ready?” recap opens, pick your gear. Next time, a long press on Start goes straight in.
  4. Tap GO: the screen turns to “Ready”, the session is recording. Put your iPhone away (waterproof pouch, harness).
  5. Go in the water: the start is set automatically when you move, or tap “Start now”.
  6. On land for more than 3 minutes: pause (orange), resumes by itself on the water.
  7. To finish, hold “Hold to finish”. A simple tap does nothing, on purpose, because of water drops.
  8. “Session saved”: tap it to relive it. It's also in My sessions.

Your first session on Apple Watch

  1. Open Tide It on the watch; on the spot page, scroll down to the Session button.
  2. Turn the Crown to pick your sport, then Start.
  3. The first time: allow Health, then location by choosing “Allow While Using App”.
  4. Wait for the green GPS dot, then go: the start is set automatically.
  5. During the session, one screen: the speed dial. Swipe for Pause, Lock (water lock) and the end: hold “Hold to finish”.
  6. Wait for “Received by iPhone” (green). If it stays on “On its way to iPhone…”, open Tide It on your iPhone: it arrives, and the watch only deletes it once received.
  7. On iPhone: My sessions, and Health ▸ Workouts.

Your missions

Do as many as you can. For each one: did it work? did it feel right? did you have to search?

On land

  • A “Run” session on the watch (15 min): start, a 3-minute pause, the resume, the end, “Received by iPhone”, then Relive and Health.
  • A session on iPhone while walking, with “Start now”.

On the water

  • A real session, on iPhone or on the watch (both at once is even better).
  • Auto start: at the right moment? too early on the beach?
  • Pause on land: set when you got out? any false pause out on the water?
  • Top speed: compare with your usual GPS and send us both numbers.
  • Time foiling and tacks & jibes: right?
  • Battery: how many % for 1 hour, iPhone and watch?
  • Water: drops, gloves, pouch, did anything trigger by itself?

After

  • Relive: is the track in the right place? does the real wind match? Share.
  • My sessions: sort, rename, edit, tick the gear you used.
  • The quiver: did your kite's history fill up?
  • Health: is the workout there with its route?

Before you go

  • The GO windows above the wheel: do they match what you found?
  • “Ready?”: right conditions? right kite of the day?
  • Shore fishing: return time and the alert before the tide turns.
  • Moon mode: times compared with your moon app.

Sending us feedback

Not there yet

Sending to Strava, the Android app of V7, Session on iPad and Mac. It's a work in progress: a session can still get lost, so keep your usual tracker alongside for a record.
